The Silent Revenue Generator
We track Sales based on new contracts. We rarely track Operations based on savings.
This is a fundamental flaw in maritime management. A sharp operator who avoids a three-day wait at anchorage has just generated pure profit. An operator who negotiates a better disbursement account has added directly to the bottom line. These are "invisible" earnings.
Because they are not on a sales sheet, they are often ignored during salary reviews. But make no mistake: a good operator does not just "manage" a voyage; they finance it through efficiency. If you do not measure these savings, you cannot reward them. And if you do not reward them, the people capable of achieving them will leave to work for a competitor who does.
